Every song tells of Shawn McDonald's personal struggle though life. It is a very honest and upfront album and there is a definite message in there for everyone.
Shawn's journey through childhood abandonment, substance abuse and finally encountering Christ in a powerful way, intensely impacts how he relates to others facing their own life challenges. Standouts on this album include the amazing Have You Ever, the album's title track, and the suitably named Beautiful. With a few hip hop elements thrown in, this is reminiscent in places of a newer artist, like Paul Wright. Overall, Shawn McDonald creates his own brand of acoustic pop, mellow in a similar fashion to the likes of Shane & Shane, Damien Rice, Be Bo Norman and Shaun Groves.
